7th Street Live returns Saturday to St. Paul’s East Side

“The Voice’s” Ashley DuBose and Cameron Wright to perform along with iLLism and more

The joyful, multicultural, multigenerational experience known as 7th Street Live returns Saturday to St. Paul’s East Side. This free event takes place from noon - 4 p.m. at the intersection of 7th and Hope streets.

7th Street Live features live entertainment, food and merchandise vendors, double dutch, cultural dance performances, boxing exhibitions and more.

Highlighting the main stage are performances by Ashley DuBose and Cameron Wright (both featured on NBC’s “The Voice”) along with iLLism, Cuauhtli Day, Power 104.7’s DJ Intenz and more.

For Mary Anne Quiroz, co-founder of Indigenous Roots, this year’s festival has added meaning.

“Despite Operation Metro Surge and now the major construction on 7th Street, the East Side endlessly continues to stay open and adaptable to challenges that are thrown our way,” said Quiroz. “7th Street LIVE embodies the joy, strength and resilience of the East Side.”

Residents and businesses on the East Side suffered greatly due increased ICE activity over the past year. This past November in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood ICE activity resulted in several journalists being injured by St. Paul Police during a clash between federal agents and those fighting for immigrant and human rights.

Quiroz said 7th Street Live provided a sense of community pride and economic opportunities.

“7th Street LIVE grounds us in music and culture while cultivating income and vibrancy for small businesses and entrepreneurs,” said Quiroz.

Returning for a second year is Ashley DuBose. DuBose said she’s looking forward to entertaining the 7th Street Live audience.

"It’s always a great time at 7th Street Live, and I’m thrilled to be back," said DuBose. "I look forward to the vibes."

DuBose will be performing several new songs, but she’s also got something for her longtime fans.

"I’m digging into the archives, so my day one fans will be very happy, said DuBose.

Cameron Wright will showcase his one-of-a-kind vocal talents on the 7th Street Live stage. Wright, who has worked with the likes of Beyoncé and other luminaries, said it’s a joy to be a part of this year’s festival.

"I’m super excited to be a part of this line-up for 7th Street Live," said Wright. "It’s always an honor to perform in my hometown, and I can’t wait to see and love on everybody there."

7th Street Live is a production of Power 104.7 FM and is hosted by Power’s Shardae Robinson and F’Rael.
