According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, earlier in the afternoon, a man who was recently released from custody on a gun charge arrived at a relative’s home on Irving Avenue North in Minneapolis and shot and killed two occupants, a man in his 20s and a 14-year-old boy, both of whom are reported to be related to the suspect. Later, that man encountered police in Brooklyn Center, where he was shot.

According to Brooklyn Center authorities, police were called on a report of a man waving a gun in the area. The man shot by police was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Eyewitness Nekima Levy-Armstrong said several shots were fired by officers, who encountered the man in Shingle Creek Crossing near an IHOP and Cub Foods. Police said in a statement that the suspect exchanged gunfire with officers.
