St. Paul Family Nonprofit Seeks To Break The Stigma Of Addiction In The Hmong Community

Updated: 57 minutes ago

Xianna MouaYang, Yeng Moua and Mai Moua, a trio of Hmong family members in long-term recovery from substance use disorder, started their St. Paul-based nonprofit Koom Recovery in 2024, with the mission of addressing the stigma of addiction in the Hmong community. In partnership with local organizations and ministries, the team delivers food, harm reduction supplies, and community support directly to homeless encampments, conducts comprehensive assessments, assists participants in accessing treatment, hosts education events in the Twin Cities and facilitates support groups to foster a culturally specific recovery community.
