Election Day is tomorrow: Here's what you need to know

Tomorrow is Election Day for all Minnesota primary races. Primary elections determine which candidates from each party (widely Democrat or Republican) will appear on your ballot in November for the General Election.

Major races include those for Minnesota Governor, U.S. Senate and Congress, State Legislature, State Auditor, Secretary of State and Attorney General.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s race is also being closely watched. The The winner will replace Mary Moriarty at the end of the year and take over the prosecution of ICE-related cases in the county after Operation Metro Surge.

Sample ballots are on the Secretary of State’s website. Voters who plan to vote tomorrow should check to see where their polling place is. Polls open at 7 a.m. and are open until 8 p.m. or as long as voters in line by the time polls are supposed to close.

Did you vote early?

Early primary voting started on June 26. Voters who completed and mailed back their early ballots should check the online ballot tracking tool tomorrow morning. If the tracking tool indicates that their ballot has not yet been accepted, they should look up their polling place and go vote in person.  

Voters can vote in person as long as election officials have not yet received and counted their mail ballots. Elections staff at polling places check to see if they’ve received and counted mail ballots from voters who want to vote in person. Voters are given ballots as long as the City has not received and counted mail ballots from them. Any uncounted mail ballots from people who have voted in person will be cancelled and not counted, even if election officials receive it later.
