When you think of trusted voices in journalism, Dawn Stevens is a name that stands out
with power, poise, and purpose. For years, she’s graced our screens not just as a news anchor, but as a storyteller, a truth-seeker, and a role model for many, especially young women of color looking to make their mark in the media.
From breaking news to community features, Dawn has made it her mission to not only inform but also uplift. In our exclusive interview, she opens up about her journey, the challenges she’s faced, and the legacy she hopes to leave behind.
After years of being a familiar face on morning TV, Dawn Stevens is now using her voice and experience to educate, empower, and inspire. In a recent conversation, Dawn opened up about her career shift from the newsroom to purpose-driven work that centers on storytelling, representation, and community change.
Her work was deeply inspired by the unrest following the murder of George Floyd and the lack of positivity in the media. Wanting to shift the narrative, Dawn made it her mission to highlight Black excellence and greatness.
“We wanted to make a positive difference in the community because we know there’s so much negativity out there,” she said. “I wanted to start sharing the positive things.”
Dawn’s journey wasn’t without its emotional moments. After being deeply moved at a speaking event by young fans who shared how much they loved watching her on TV, she realized the power of her influence.
“These little girls inspired me to stick around for a few more years,” she shared. Still, she knew a transition was coming. She later accepted a communications role with Alpha Mission, a company connecting Black- owned businesses to Fortune 500 brands. It was a divine fit. “God knows what he’s doing all the time,” she said. “And so that was my journey.”
