Three dead, several injured in Downtown Minneapolis mass shooting

City of Minneapolis leaders gave an update on the shooting in Downtown Minneapolis that left three people dead and several others injured Wednesday afternoon.

Around 4:30 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment building on East Grant Street. When they arrived, they found multiple victims in the lobby and heard more shots as they entered the building. 

Two victims were pronounced dead: one at the scene and another at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC). Three additional civilians are being treated at HCMC for their injuries. The suspected shooter was also found dead at the scene. Authorities have not released their identity.

Three Minneapolis police officers were injured during the incident, with one undergoing surgery. 

Mayor Jacob Frey praised the responding officers for their bravery. "They rescued victims, brought people to safety, and helped get approximately four people to the hospital, all while getting shot at themselves," Frey said.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is leading the investigation.
